this city won't be successful unless everyone joins in the industry and tech sf is the way to ensure that happens. it is education. it is training and it is placement. those three elements as part of anybody's announcement in program have to be seen all the way through and this is what tech sf is doing. doing it with some wonderful community based organizations like year up, like bay cat, and bay vat. all three worked with sf city and city government under our leadership with the office of economic and work force development and we succeeded at landing a $8 million grant from the department of labor. i want to thank secretary sois for this opportunity and have appreciation for president obama and it was his idea of stimulating our economy to get these funds and we're going to use it for a long time. we're going to make this a great foundation, so tech sf is about utilizing those funds, creating an association with these technology companies that are creating the new jobs and the new products that come out. asking those technology companies to help us identify the skill sets, and then

not just quad droople the number of solar roofs we created 28 companies and created 450 jobs in the city and making san francisco the solar capitol of california. when people were losing their homes here in san francisco in call, there is plenty of talk and discussion about what to do, we commissioned the first report of its kind to make sure that there were facts behind the dialogue, and because of those facts that came out in our report, looking at foreclosures, finding fraud and finding inappropriate activities that happened by the lenders, action was taken and the home owner's bill of rights and i was proud to be one of the co-sponsors of the piece of legislation in the state. when people talk about fixing education, i first and foremost have that personal experience going into the public schools and going to uc berkeley and seeing my daughter attend a kindergarten every day. and i can tell you that there is no more important issue in our state than education and what we are doing. we need to make sure that it is a priority and it is getting funded and we can't continue to fund highe

my former colleague from sf state, alejandro [speaker not understood]. and i've been a fan of his since 1975 when he was in his 20s. it's third world communications time degrees publication. but he's been a tremendous leader in supporting city of poets and encouraging all of us to consider ourselves poets as well. so, we'll have him along with a couple of richmond district poets that friends of the library recently honored along with poets in the rest of our districts as well. we'll be hearing from a couple of richmond district poets, susan terrence and also david [speaker not understood] as well. also wanted to say that today, i have the honor of helping to cut the ribbon for the grand reopening of our fulton playground on 27th and fulton and it was wonderful. it's a $4.5 million project that allowed us to transform dpw and the rec and park department and the neighbors around it to transform a formerly, and a very stark and bleak playground with mostly tennis and basketball to amazing place that has skateboarding, places for seniors to sit and gather, b
